News for January 18, 2015

by Charles Laux on January 18, 2015

Hello parents,

Our spring semester is now underway!  We are so excited to see the look on our new beginner’s faces and look forward to the continued progress of our two classes.

There are still openings available and we are still accepting registrations!  If you know someone interested in being a part of the KSU String Project, please spread the word and let them know that it’s not too late!  Our tuition of $50 per semester is the best value you will find in string education in the Atlanta area.

Materials for Class

In order to maximize instruction time, be sure that your child comes prepared to class with the following:

  • Instrument & bow
  • Pencil
  • Method Book (Essential Elements for Strings)
  • Music Stand

Practice Time

We often get the question, “How long should my child be practicing?”  This is a complex question, but the simple answer is that they should be practicing daily, in small amounts, 10-20 minutes.  Daily practice is far superior to sporadic practice episodes.  Another good rule of thumb is for students to practice the parts they can’t play well rather than the parts they already know.  Breaking down longer pieces into smaller sections helps ensure that they are practicing the right sections.

Save the Date!

Mark your calendars for Tuesday, May 5!  This is the date of our Spring Concert that will be held at the Bailey Performance Center at KSU.  All of the KSUSP classes will perform, along with a special guest performance by the Palmer Middle School Orchestra, under the direction of Susan Goudreau. This will be a great way to celebrate our success at the end of the year!

Benefits of Music Instruction

This is a great video showing the some of the benefits of music instruction on the brain!

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  We will see you on Tuesday, January 20.
